Facebook Application Pilot

In the first half of 2009, NewsCloud will be releasing a Facebook application for publishing social media. The application will allow organizations to easily publish a topic-driven news site inside Facebook, engaging readers in current events and reaching new members. Features will include:

  • Front page with top stories and featured news
  • Story pages and discussion threads
  • Incoming stories and feeds for story selection and voting
  • Member journals
  • Resource pages linking to background material on your organization and its mission
  • Viral features for sharing the publication and stories with friends inside Facebook

We are currently looking for organizations wishing to participate in early testing trials of the application as we proceed with our development. Your organization may be a fit if:

  • You are a medium-sized to large-size mission-driven nonprofit organization interested in building a presence on Facebook.
  • You have moderate technology capacity within your organization e.g. on staff system administrator and/or web development resources
  • Ideally (but not required), you have a small to medium sized development budget to apply to any required customization that you decide to pursue - or you are able to do this in-house
  • Ideally (but not required), your organization focuses outreach on younger people ages 16-30

This application is part of our Social Media Toolkit vision and will be released via open source at the end of the project. This work is being completed as part of our recently announced Knight Foundation grant.

Please email us with information about your organization if you are interested.

We will post more information on this opportunity in the near future.
